The year 2020 has been particularly tough on relationships, and even the happiest of couples have found themselves fighting during the pandemic.

According to a report, there was a 122% increase in divorce inquiries around the world, as well as a significant rise in searches for online advice on how to end a relationship this year. One major factor that caused the worldwide break-up boom is the lockdown, which forced couples to spend more time together. What should have been a time for bonding has resulted in stress, miscommunication and misunderstandings, proving that for a relationship to thrive, couples need a change of scenery in order to be in a positive frame of mind. This is why going on nature dates can be a good way to heal your relationship during tough times. Not only will it give you the opportunity to bond outdoors, but being in nature can be incredibly healing when you’re struggling to cope.

Here’s how nature dates can strengthen your relationship during difficult times.

Nature dates can reduce stress

Everyone will feel stress at some point in their lives, and couples who are stressed because of work or other matters may fight more often and experience stress-related physical and mental health conditions, such as burnout, depression, digestive issues, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. To relieve stress and avoid conflicts, try going on nature dates with your partner. Consider going on a day hike, or go on a boat and spend the whole day fishing. Both activities can help you de-stress, as being in nature can reduce your blood pressure, and being out in the sun can also help to improve your mood.

It can put the spark back in your relationship

Dealing with daily responsibilities can sap the life out of you and leave you feeling tired and listless. When you find yourself in a state of exhaustion, your relationship can fall into a rut, and you may no longer feel excited about trying new things together or being intimate with each other.

Fortunately, spending time in nature can put the spark back in your relationship: studies have shown that viewing nature scenes can increase vitality.

Try going on weekly dates to a botanical garden or a park to reduce fatigue and put you in the right mood to reconnect with your partner.

They can renew your ability to rely on each other

Going on an outdoor adventure date can help you develop your teamwork and strengthen your trust bond. It also allows you to show your partner what you’re capable of, and let them see that they can rely on you. To renew your ability to trust and rely on each other, try camping, going on a kayaking date, or have a rock climbing adventure. Going on a long biking trip can also help you bond and work together as a team.

Relationships can go through rough spots, but don’t let tough times get the better of you. Try going on regular nature dates to strengthen your relationship, and see how spending time outdoors can help to reignite your passion and love for one another.
