OMG, A New Dating Trend Exists, It’s Called “Caspering”

Okay my first reaction was exactly the same as yours: “OH MY GOD, HOW THE HELL CAN THERE BE YET ANOTHER DATING TREND THAT’S BASICALLY THE SAME AS ANOTHER TERM THAT ALREADY EXISTS”

But guess what? I DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT HOW BUT HERE IT IS.

Caspering, noun: Basically, someone ghosts you but in a really nice and subtle way.
Which, like, hasn’t everyone done that at some point in the era of dating apps and mobile phones? Or is it just me? and I oop…

Beep, beep. On my way to Casper someone

So instead of cutting communication cold turkey, they’ll just take incrementally longer to get back to you until one day they never get back to you at all. Sounds incredibly sad but at this point my heart has formed a protective candy shell so it’s impervious to this behavior…or at least, I pretend it has.

HelloGiggles describes Caspering as a playful word for leading someone on because, ironically, you’re afraid of being the bad guy and hurting their feelings. In the end, however, you’re still a jerk.

They do have a point, though. Ghosting and Caspering aren’t nice things to do even though one’s less bad than the other. I guess the proper way to end things with anyone, whether it’s been 2 dates or 3 years is to end it by communicating it to them. Ugh, I hate that but it’s the right thing to do. 😅

Have you been caspered?
