Celebs Reveal How Awkward Intimate Scenes Are BTS And It’s Kinda Like Real Life TBH

We’ve all sat there with our parents innocently watching a movie when all of the sudden a sex scene gets thrust into our faces. While trying not to make eye contact with our parents, we desperately cling on to the one thought that pops up in our head like “how fucking awkward is it to film a sex scene?!”

‘Cause let’s be honest, sex in REAL LIFE can be super awkward, messy, funny, lovely, and intimate. So how awkward is a manufactured sex scene? According to this list, pretty hella awkward.

Here are some of our faves:

1. Dave Franco, The Neighbors

“I was pretty nervous for the scene. I met [Halston Sage] the day before, and she was beautiful and very sweet, but it’s awkward. You meet each other and then you’re grinding — you don’t even know her name, barely.”

“And then, of course, I woke up that morning and I had a giant pimple on my ass. I had to go to the makeup artist who I had ALSO just met that week and be like, ‘Can I go in the other room and have you put makeup [on it]?’”

Not to mention it was his first actual sex scene ever! LOL

2. Aubrey Plaza, Dirty Grandpa

“We didn’t totally plan out the scene, so we didn’t really know what was going to go down.” Because of this, the director would give her suggestions of what to try with Robert Deniro. He had suggested sucking on his nipples a bit, so she did:

“I’d try to get in there and suck on his nipples, and he was like batting me away, and I didn’t know if it was in character or not,” she said. “And then they’d cut the camera and [the director] called me back and was like ‘Bob does not like his nipple area paid attention to.’

“I was like, ‘Great, now he thinks that I wanted to do that,’ ” she laughed.

3. Keanu Reeves, Knock Knock

“I mean, those scenes are always weird. But Eli [Roth, the director] created a great situation of trust in rehearsal…but eventually you’ve got to strip naked and simulate, and I wasn’t going to be that guy who was like, ‘Hey Eli, your wife’s hot!’ Yeah no, he was really cool about it and we all…had fun.”

4. Olivia Colma, The Favorite

“So…Emma had to finger me. She was a little bit worried, since it was under the sheets. So I went to makeup and I got a sponge…a big, wet sponge. I put it there as a barrier and told her not to worry about it. So when we were shooting, she was going up my leg and then went ‘OH?! [in disgust]’ and I was like “Oh no, it’s a sponge!”

5. Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman

“I had never done this kind of stuff before, and I was really nervous. I’d get hives. They’d say, ‘kiss,’ and I’d get a hive…but the funny thing is that we’d become such a family.

6. Ryan Reynolds, The Change-Up

“So in the scene she’s [Olivia Wilde] sitting there, and I take her top off, I take her bra off, and she has those pasties on, but she’s drawn these adorable little smiley faces on them. And I forget every line in the scene. Not just from this movie, from every movie I’ve done.”

7. Allison Janney, Life During Wartime

“Michael had to push me up against a wall, and they wanted us to look sweaty for the shot. So they sprayed this glistening stuff all over us. They didn’t realize that we’re on a marble floor. He pushes me up against the wall and — all of a sudden — we drop out of frame because he slips and he drags me down with him. He falls on his knees and I can’t stop laughing…and the cameraman couldn’t stop either. But [Michael] really hurt his knees. He had to go to the hospital.”

There’s a weird sense of comfort knowing that sex is still awkward even when SUPER attractive people are getting PAID to PRETEND to do it. So, our awkward real life sex isn’t that bad tbh.

And remember, sex should always be fun, consensual and safe!
